The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation spent Tuesday, May 7, celebrating moms at the Center Table Mother’s Day food distribution event. The event fed over 500 families with each household receiving whole chickens, fresh fruit and vegetables, pantry items as well as fresh flowers and grocery gift cards. It was the perfect way to kick off a week of celebrating moms, grandmothers, stepmothers and mom figures of all types.
The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation worked in conjunction with The North Texas Food Bank and Mark Cuban Foundation and partnered with the Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center to help fight hunger in an area of Dallas that has become very special to the foundation.
“This is a cause that is very important to me, my family and my foundation,” Dirk Nowitzki said. “We were here in November holding a similar event knowing the importance of allowing families a chance to celebrate the holidays around a dinner table with a good meal. Mother’s Day is no different and we are here today distributing food, flowers and gift cards to allow families to celebrate this very important holiday together around the dinner table as well.”
In addition to the food giveaway, 41 moms were surprised with gift packages to help make their Mother’s Day extra special. The gift packages included spa, restaurant and retail gift cards.
With inflation and the economic climate continuing to take its toll on families, there is such a high need for events like this. The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation is incredibly thankful to all its partners and, most importantly, all the volunteers who helped make the event such a success.
